PhilippinesTyphoonHIS EMINENCE ARCHBISHOP DEMETRIOS OF OUR GREEK ORTHODOX ARCHDIOCESE OF AMERICA has requested that this Sunday (November 17) and next Sunday (November 24), Greek Orthodox churches throughout America take up special collections to assist the people of the Philippines who have been suffered unfathomable disaster and losses as a result of Typhoon Haiyan which hit the islands on November 8.

This typhoon ranks among the world’s strongest tropical storms ever and the devastation is hard to comprehend. An estimated 12.5 million people have been affected by the disaster with the eastern islands hardest hit. An estimated 600,000 are homeless and more than 10,000 are known to be dead.

Please be generous when the tray passes. Checks may be made payable to ‘Greek Orthodox Archdiocese,’ with ‘Philippines Relief Fund’ on the memo line.
