This Friday and Saturday – Exaltation of the Holy Cross
This is one of the most beloved feasts during the Church year–it is the one in which we celebrate the finding of the True Cross by St. Helen in Jerusalem in 326 AD. We remember this event with awe and exalt the power and mystery of the Cross of Christ. The awesomeness of this feast caused the Church to proclaim this day a strict fast.
Great vespers will be prayed this Friday evening at 6:00 PM.
Orthros will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning. We will have Orthros, then the Exaltation of the Cross will take place with Divine Liturgy immediately thereafter.
It is customary to adorn a hand-cross on a tray with fresh flowers and sprigs of basil for the Exaltation service. Please let Fr. know if you are willing to donate flowers and/or fresh basil for this purpose. If so, we ask that you bring these items on Friday evening so the cross can be decorated before 9:00 AM on Saturday. Also, if anyone is willing to do the cross decoration on Saturday, please let Fr. Leo know.
Let us all worship the Lord and exalt the power of the Cross this Friday and Saturday!
